Industrial Chain Selection Guide

A practical input checklist for selecting chain and sprockets without relying on pitch or tensile strength alone.

Answer-first workflow

A practical input checklist for selecting chain and sprockets without relying on pitch or tensile strength alone.

Identify whether the chain transmits power, conveys a product or works as a tension linkage. Record the complete load path and the worst operating event, not only the average load.

Measurements and interfaces

Capture pitch over several links, roller diameter, inner width, plate height, pin diameter, strand count, attachment spacing and sprocket tooth count. A photograph with a scale helps, but a drawing is needed for approval.

Operating context

Document speed, hours, starts, reversing, shock, contamination, temperature, corrosion, washdown and lubrication access. State applicable machine or safety standards and whether matched lengths or traceable inspection documents are required.

Decision boundary

Use catalogue values as source facts and published standards as context. Do not infer material, certification, compatibility or allowable working load unless it is stated and approved for the order.
